濃茶を何人かで分け合って飲むことを廻し飲みと言います。
茶会で廻し飲みするのも、躙り口(にじりぐち)と同じく千利休さん(1537-98)の発案と言われています。
躙り口をくぐり、2畳から4畳半の狭い空間で、濃茶を廻し飲みする。
In a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, thick tea is shared among several guests using a single tea bowl.
It is said that this custom like the crawling-in entrance was introduced by Sen no Rikyū (1537–1598).
Guests would crawl through a small entrance into a small tea room—usually between 3㎡ and 7㎡ in size—and then take turns drinking from the same bowl of thick tea.

平和を作りたかったからかなぁ、と思うのです。
利休さんは、戦乱の世にあって天下統一を成し遂げた豊臣秀吉に仕えた人でした。
利休さんが、秀吉の茶堂となられたのが、1583年。
天下統一は、1590年。
1583年以降の利休さんの茶会に参加するのは、武将が多くなったそうです。
I guess he might create a sense of equality and peace by this shared experience, particularly during Japan’s era of civil war.
Rikyū served as the tea master to Toyotomi Hideyoshi(1537-1598), who eventually unified Japan.
He was appointed to this role in 1583, and the unification was achieved by 1590.
After Rikyū became Hideyoshi’s tea master, many of the tea gatherings he hosted included powerful country lords and military leaders.

ちなみに、旧村上邸柏庵茶室で提供するのは、薄茶なので、廻し飲みはありません!
